Job Title:  Assistant Principal/Dean of Student Success

Reports to: Principal

 

Supervises: As assigned by the principal 

 

Purpose: The assistant principal serves as a member of the administrative team to develop and implement the total school program. The Dean of Student Success works closely with students on their individual educational plan to ensure each student maximizes their opportunities and receives support.  Provides instructional support to classroom teachers, especially with Apple Technology.  May serve i

 

Essential Job Functions: 

• Pre-Class Organization: assists to implement student orientation and registration activities. 
• Planning the School Program: assists in the development and establishing of the school goals and objectives and the planning of the schools instructional program. Assists teachers in implementing technology into their lesson plans, especially Apple Technology.  Co-teaches monthly support sessions for juniors and seniors.  Leads the “Be Calm” program.   
• Implementing the School Program: assists to provide direction to staff in implementing goals and objectives and interacts and meets with staff to assist in their development. Conducts teacher observations and provides feedback.
• Evaluation and Remediation of the School Program: assists in the evaluation of the school program and of staff and assists to initiate needed improvements. 
• Involving the Staff in Budget Allocations: involves the staff in setting budget priorities. 
• Keeping Professionally Competent: acts to upgrade own professional knowledge and skills. 
• Coordinating Budgets and Schedules: assists in the preparation and management of budgets and schedules and in the coordination and implementation of the co-curricular program. 
• Handling Disciplinary Procedures: assists to define and disseminate information about school disciplinary policies and procedures to parents, students, staff and community. 
• Coordinating and Communicating the Schools Formal Structure: communicates and carries out established policies, delegates and accepts responsibility for completion of tasks and communicates program goals, objectives and policies to the community. 
• Coordinating School Services and Resources: assists in supervising and maintaining auxiliary services such as cafeteria services and uses community resources to supplement the school program.  Assists with planning and organizing school events such as awards ceremonies and graduation. 
• Facilitating Organizational Efficiency: promotes and maintains open communications, positive student attitudes, respects dignity, worth of staff, students, and complies with established lines of authority. 
• Assisting in Record Keeping: assists in completion of records and reports and in the supervision and inventory of necessary supplies, textbooks, equipment and materials
• Student Success:  Works with each student individually to create and update their four year plans, collaborating with the school principal and COA liaison.  Facilitates 504 meetings and plans as needed.  

 

Knowledge and Skills: 

• Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force and lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects.  Must be able to walk and stand for long periods.
• Ability to communicate instructions, assignments, or directions to subordinates or assistants.  
• Ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, charts, strategic plans, etc.  Ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, appraisals, charts, etc.; using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style.  Ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control, and confidence.
• Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
• Ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.  Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations
• Ability to communicate verbally, including via telephone

Training and Experience: 

• Master’s degree in Education Administration, 3 to 5 years experience as a classroom teacher or any equivalent combination and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Must be certified or able to be certified as a school administrator by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.  Must possess a valid driver’s license.

 

Salary: State Salary Schedule plus local supplement; Full-time 12 month employment
