Job Description of the District Lead Teacher Elementary

Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools 

 

Reports to: Director of Talent Development

 

Supervises:  May coordinate and direct the activities of Multi-Classroom Leaders and teachers.

 

Purpose: The District Lead Teacher is responsible for providing leadership, coordination, and support in the ongoing development, implementation, and administration of all phases of curriculum and instruction.  The District Lead Teacher is defined as one whose primary concern is the improvement and growth of teachers throughout the district.  The candidate is responsible for instructional functions including but not limited to the area of instructional assignment.  The District Lead Teacher is responsible for keeping abreast of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study instructional initiatives as they apply to teachers, and should be an expert in curriculum development and delivery.

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

• Ensure the district's compliance with DPI policies related to curriculum instruction and standards.
• Represent the district at various external events/ meetings related to curriculum and instruction
• Develop and lead professional development: workshops, school visits, district induction
• Support MCLs and RAs
• Support the program evaluation processes
• Stay updated on curriculum developments, changes, and assessment requirements
• Collaborate with teachers to ensure the e?ective delivery of the curriculum
• Leads staff development sessions 
• Implements effective coaching rounds 
• Demonstrates/model  lessons and observes teachers   
• Attends required district, regional, and state meetings
• Conducts research and applies best instructional strategies   
• Analyze retention, recruitment, assessment, and survey data   
• Plan, develop, and coordinates teacher orientation as needed, training in school system policies and procedures for teachers, the teacher support program, and other programs supporting teacher development as assigned  
• Plans and collaborates with school system principals to provide support for teachers at school sites   
• Assists the Assistant Superintendent of C&I with developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum and instruction teachers  
• Assists in the evaluation of the district and school-level professional development for impact on increased teacher effectiveness and improved academic achievement  
• Communicate effectively with supervisors concerning pertinent aspects of the district and school-level professional development programs, particularly for teachers  
• Encourages and supports the development and implementation of innovative, effective instructional programs based on scientifically based research to increase achievement for all students  
• Monitors professional development activities for teachers 
• Monitors the teacher evaluation system for compliance
• Consult and work with principals and supervisors to ensure state and local requirements are met  
• Verifies and provides information necessary to satisfy local and state reporting requirements  
• Demonstrates awareness of school/community needs and supports activities to meet those needs  
• Remains current in state and federal program guidelines, procedures, rules, and laws  
• Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional activities  
• Carries out other duties assigned by the Director of Talent Development

Training and Experience: 

• NC teaching license an
• Minimum 5 years of teaching experience, preferably in demonstrated success in improving student outcomes
• Ability to work with diverse groups of stakeholders
• Ability and/or experience managing multiple projects and tasks
• Experience in analyzing problems and ?nding e?ective solutions
• Strong leadership, data analysis, communication, and collaboration skills 
• Experience with curriculum development, assessment design, and coaching teachers
• Strong ability to create and deliver effective professional learning

Salary: State Salary Schedule plus local supplement; 12-month position
