Job Description of the Instructional Technology Facilitator / Media Coordinator

Reports to: Principal
Supervises: None
Purpose: To work collaboratively with the administration and staff to support the implementation of innovative instructional practices that promote student centered deeper learning such as project based learning though the use of technology integration. Provides ongoing professional learning experiences for teachers and staff through effective, non-evaluative coaching practices which include assessing student and teacher needs, co-planning, modeling, co-teaching, assisting, observing, and providing feedback. Develops model lessons and instructional products for use in the classroom.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works collaboratively with building administrators to determine instructional technology training needs of staff
- Works with the principal to integrate instructional technology training into the professional development plan
- Meets regularly with instructional staff to plan, develop, model, and co teach lessons that include effective technology integration, authentic learning experiences, and expectations as outlined in the North Carolina Portrait of a Graduate
- Develops and conducts appropriate professional development sessions related to the use of instructional software, applications, hardware, and related peripherals
- Provide assistance with the appropriate integration of various technology into daily instruction
- Researches, investigates and learns to use site-specific instructional hardware and software to support teaching and learning
- Researches best practices and resources in instructional technology and STEM integration and disseminates to instructional staff through regular and ongoing communication such as a newsletter, blog, webpage, podcast or other social media
- Maintains and disseminates information on internet sites appropriate for use in daily instruction with consideration of Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)
- Carries out non-instructional duties as assigned
- Adheres to all established laws, policies, rules and regulations
- Follows a plan for professional development and demonstrates evidence of growth
- Works with the principal and school leadership team to provide flexible access to school library media center resources
- Keeps accurate inventories of print, non print, and technology materials and equipment
- Works with school staff to design and implement short and long range plans to ensure balance among teaching, instructional technology, collaboration, collection development, and program management
- Evaluates the school library media program on a continual basis according to accepted standards of quality
- Organizes school library media facilities and resources in a manner that supports the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and maximizes intellectual and physical access to resources
Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrated understanding of instructional strategies for the adult learner
- Demonstrated experience leading professional development
- Demonstrated experience leading a team or serving as an effective mentor
- Demonstrated ability to implement appropriate instructional technology to support content curriculum
- Experience using Google Suite with a high level of familiarity with collaborative instructional tools
- Experience using Apple Products
- Knowledge and understanding of the curriculum, subject content, and student developmental needs
- Ability to create relevant learning experiences for teachers, students by integrating appropriate technologies to enrich the instructional program
- Demonstrated ability to research, located and deploy web resources to support instruction
- Ability to plan, develop and deliver training and ancillary materials related to the integration of software applications, hardware and peripherals into classroom instruction based upon sound, current educational research
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with building administrators as well as instructional and technical staff
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to develop complex instructional materials, documentation and technical reports
- Must have considerable knowledge of Internet Safety, digital citizenship and cybersecurity
- Should have basic knowledge of coding, robotics, game creation and other logic-based programming
- Must have a strong foundation of pedagogical knowledge and teaching methodologies including an understanding of Substitution, Augmentation, Modification and Redefinition (SAMR) technology integration model
- Must be able to stand, walk, move, climb, carry, bend, kneel, crawl, reach, push and pull.
Training and Experience:
- Degree in education or a related field that will qualify for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in the area required. NC Licensure as a School Media Coordinator or 18 hours graduate semester hours toward a school media coordinator program. Preferred Masters in Instructional Technology or related field.
- Minimum three years of classroom experience; five years preferred.
Salary: State Salary Schedule for Teachers plus local supplement; 10 month position
