Job Description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
An employee in this class performs the full range of duties associated with installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and gas appliances, controls, piping, fixtures, and equipment. Work includes the independent performance of less technical tasks of the electrical and plumbing trades for which detailed instructions are available. A larger, costlier, exceptional, or more complex job may be reviewed by a technical supervisor to determine appropriate procedures and to assure that proper work methods are being followed. Employee receive work orders indicating the nature of work to be done. They are expected to determine the materials, tools, and repair procedures needed. Errors may be quickly revealed or may only be located after involvement of a supervisor, and may be costly to fix. Limited supervision is given to this employee. Work is reviewed to determine that assigned tasks are completed correctly.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
- Analyzes, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical control circuits, using electrical test devices and instruments
- Replaces faulty thermostats, wiring, and controls
- Checks accuracy and calibrates electrical, gas, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electronic control systems
- Replaces faulty piping and tubing
- Cleans, lubricates, installs, repairs, and services ovens, steamers, dish washers, kettles, mixers, fryers, proofing cabinets, cloths washers and dryers, and all other cafeteria equipment
- Connects and installs electrical service, gas piping, and tubing to cafeteria equipment
- Disconnects and removes appliances, equipment, and machines
- Wires controls
- Adjusts mechanical functions on dish washers, steamers, kettles, mixers, and other equipment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Considerable knowledge of electricity and electrical theory
- Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, parts, and equipment used in commercial kitchens and schools
- Considerable knowledge of LP gas and gas ignition systems
- Ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and prescribe repair procedures
- Ability to follow broad written, detailed written, or oral instructions
- Skill in the use, care, and calibration of the equipment, tools, and instruments of the trade
- Ability to review, recommend, layout, plan, and direct installation of equipment
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, sketches, and drawings
- Ability to order replacement parts
- Ability to coordinate with other staff members and departments
- Ability to lift 70 lbs., stand, kneel, climb, and driver’s license
SALARY RANGE
Pay Grade 62
$2723.41 - $4748.97 per month
(based on 0-36 years of experience in a school system)
Full time, Permanent, 12-month position
