Job Description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
An employee in this class involves the performance of journeyman level carpentry work in the maintenance and repair of buildings or in fabrication and repairing a variety of wooden articles and equipment. The appearance and finish of work produced at this level is critical. Work assignments are received from a supervisor by written or oral instructions; however an employee in this class is required to perform work in accordance with established trade practices. New or unusual work assignments are accompanied by detailed instructions and any irregular or difficult work problems are resolved through discussion with a supervisor. Work is reviewed by a supervisor through inspection of completed work for quality and compliance with work orders. Additional duties may be assigned.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
- Performs general carpentry work in the construction, repair of alteration of floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows and screens
- Selects, cuts and trims lumber to size using the correct tools
- Sets up, adjusts and operates power saw, drill press, planer, mortising machine and jointer
- Replace glass in doors and windows and build scaffold and concrete forms
- Sands, paints or stains cabinets, work tables and other wooden articles
- Repair sheetrock, prep, repair and paint
- Knowledge of replacing VCT floor tiles
- Makes iron or wooden braces
- Hang doors and/windows and repair tables, desks and chairs
- Use of simple hand and power tools
- Knowledge of locks and panic devices
- Knowledge of simple maintenance tasks such as roofing, hardware installation, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalency
- NC Driver’s License
- Working knowledge of the standard techniques, methods, practices, and tools of the carpentry trade
- Must be able to read blueprints, schematics, sketches, or drawings
- Must be able to follow oral and written instructions
- Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs.
- At least three years of carpentry experience preferred
STATE RANGE
Pay Grade 61
$2732.96 - $4556.26 per month
Hourly $15.77 - $26.29 per month
(based on 0-30 years of experience in a school system)
Full-time, Permanent
