Job Description of the Pest Control Technician - Maintenance

Reports to: Director of Maintenance
Supervises: None
Purpose: Responsible for identifying, selecting, mixing and applying chemical or manual solutions to eliminate pests. Identifies pest problems and appropriate solutions, applies chemicals or traps, and removes animals following EPA regulations and Integrated Pest Management Program.
Essential Job Functions:
- Inspect property to ascertain possible sites of pest invasion and determine treatment type required to eliminate and prevent infestation
- Identify invading pests, including, but not limited to mice, rats, termite, snakes, wasps, ants and spiders
- Create wood destroying insect reports including recommendations
- Measure area dimensions requiring treatment
- Apply chemical solutions, powders, and granules on or near surfaces of a building to eliminate pests
- Ensure safety procedures are followed for application and reentry
- Utilize appropriate protective gear and equipment during application
- Cut or bore into buildings to access infested areas
- Set mechanical traps if needed
- Remove dead rodents after extermination or live animals after trapping
- Keep service vehicle organized, professional and clean
- Maintain proper inventory of tools, equipment, and materials in school district vehicle
- Build positive relationships with staff
- Be available to work a flexible schedule if required to complete job responsibilities
- Responsible for completing all work orders as assigned, including work orders for other general maintenance issues
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to stand for an extended period of time, up to 8 hours, with the ability to lift 50 pounds
- Must be able to stoop, squat, bend, twist, stretch, turn, lift, and carry
- Must be able to crawl through attic spaces and crawl spaces, and use a ladder to access roofs
- Thorough knowledge of common practices, tools and terminology used to control pests; thorough knowledge of the use of pesticides
- Ability to read and work from sketches, drawings, plans or specifications
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions
- Must be courteous and pleasant with students, parents, faculty and staff
- Must be proficient in math
Training and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred
- NC Pest Control License or working towards certification
Salary: Grade 62
Full-time 12 month employment
