Job Description of the Exceptional Children Behavior Support Professional

Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools 



Reports to: Director of Exceptional Children

 

Supervises:  None

 

Purpose: The Exceptional Children Behavior Support Professional is responsible for creating a positive learning environment for students.  The Exceptional Children Behavior Support Professional will help resolve behavior problems that interfere with gaining the greatest benefit from the school’s educational opportunities.  

 

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Complete observations
  • Complete Functional Behavior Assessments
  • Provide recommendations to the MTSS and/or IEP on behavioral interventions, goals, supplemental services
  • Assist in creating a positive school environment conducive to teaching and learning
  • Serve as a resource to staff in dealing with classroom management issues by modeling and coaching on behavioral systems
  • Support policies, rules and regulations established by Elizabeth City Pasquotank Public Schools
  • Work cooperatively and communicate with the student’s school team
  • Participate in or lead professional development for positive behavior support systems and development of intervention strategies
  • Work successfully and positively with identified students to provide them with assistance in meeting their educational needs
  • Interpret data accurately
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Ability to stand for an extended period of time
  • Must be able to stoop, squat, bend, twist, stretch, turn, lift, and carry
  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions
  • Must be courteous and pleasant with students, parents, faculty and staff
  • Must be able to establish and maintain good working relationships
  • Must be able to motivate students
  • Must maintain confidentiality

Training and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology or human services related field 
  • Willing to assist students with behavioral challenges and assist with monitoring and implementation of behavioral plans
  • Possession of an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge skills, and abilities for the position

 

Salary: Grade 65

            Salary Range $2,997.47 - $5,292.58

            Full-time 10 month employment
