Job Description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
An employee in this position performs moderate to a large variety of duties in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures. Work includes the independent performance of less technical tasks of the electrical trade; as experience is gained, more technical tasks are performed under the supervision of an electrician. Assignments are accompanied by specific instructions. Employees receive supervision; degree of supervision depending on the nature of the assignment. Work is reviewed to determine whether basic principles and techniques are understood as well as to determine that assigned tasks are completed satisfactorily.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
- Cuts, bends, and threads conduit and pulls wire through conduit
- Installs fixtures, outlets, and swithces, and makes wire connections
- Replaces defective wiring and makes connections to new electrical installations
- Works in helper capacity on installation of transformers, building of primary and secondary busways and installation of switchgear
- Makes minor repairs to motors, sewer pumps and controls
- Performs related duties as required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of elementary arithmetic and units of measure
- Basic knowledge of the standard of practices and methods of the electrical trade
- Basic skill in the use and care of tools and equipment necessary to electrical work
- Ability to interpret work from sketches
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalency
- Valid NC driver’s license
- Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs.
SALARY RANGE
Pay Grade 59
$2600 - $4940.80 per month
(based on 0-30 years of experience in a related position within a public school system)
Full time, Permanent, 12-month position
